Artist's Statement

My paintings are studies in human nature. They speak of my fascination with it. With the sun and moon of us. With how we get along. How we hit and miss each other. Lose our way. Find another. How we sing and why we're silent. What pulls us up. Or under. Brings us wonder.

With deep respect for the subconscious--and for how much can be learned from its mystery--I work intuitively. Part of the process is getting lost in it, and then finding my way back through a forest of emotion and layers of paint.

I use a myriad of materials in addition to oil paint. They include: wax and alkyd mediums, charcoal, pastels and numerous drawing media on canvas, linen, wood and paper.

Two recurring forms take shape in my work: people/figures abiding in imagination and crows out my window, living their crow lives. Here, they tumble into paint.
